What a footwear / shoe shop bill must show

Every tax invoice needs the Rule 46 fields in the table further down. On top of those, a footwear bill needs:

What to printWhy / source
GST rate per pairFootwear of sale value up to ₹2,500 a pair at 5%, above it at 18% (PIB, 56th GST Council)
HSN by upper material (6402, 6403, 6404)Rule 46(g)
Article number and sizeNot a GST field; it is how you match a return to the box
Discount before GSTRule 46(k); the discounted value decides the slab

The shop columns in this format

  • Article no.: The design code on the box, so the same design in another size is easy to find.
  • Size: UK, EU or Indian size, as printed on the box.
  • Colour: Needed when one article comes in several colours.

GST rates on the sample items

From 22 September 2025 a pair with sale value up to ₹2,500 is at 5% and a pair above it at 18% (PIB, 56th GST Council). The sample sports shoes at ₹3,299 show the 18% line, the others the 5% line.

Common mistakes on footwear bills

  • Using one rate for the whole bill when it has a ₹3,299 pair and a ₹899 pair.
  • Not writing the size, so a size exchange cannot be checked against the bill.
  • Charging on MRP when the pair was sold at a discount that took it under ₹2,500.

How to use this format

  1. Download the format. Choose Excel (.xlsx) for automatic GST totals, Word (.docx) to edit the layout, or Print / Save as PDF to get the A4 sample as a PDF.
  2. Put in your shop details. Replace the sample shop name, address and GSTIN.
  3. Type over the sample items. Enter each item with its HSN, article no., size, colour, quantity, rate, discount and GST rate. In Excel the taxable value, CGST, SGST or IGST and the total fill in by themselves.
  4. Print, sign and keep a copy. Print on A4 or save as PDF, sign it and keep the office copy with the next invoice number in your series.

What is the GST on footwear in 2026?
