Cosmetics shop bill format (beauty store bill)

Quick answer

A cosmetics shop GST bill needs the Rule 46 fields and two rates side by side: since 22 September 2025 shampoo, hair oil, face and talcum powder, toothpaste and toilet soap are at 5%, while other make-up and perfume stay at 18%. Adding the shade, batch and expiry to each line makes returns and complaints easy to check.

What a cosmetics & beauty store bill must show

Every tax invoice needs the Rule 46 fields in the table further down. On top of those, a cosmetics bill needs:

What to printWhy / source
The correct rate per productHair oil, shampoo, talcum and face powder, toothpaste, toilet soap to 5% (PIB, 56th GST Council); other cosmetics at their own rate
HSN 3303 to 3307 by productRule 46(g)
Shade or sizeNot a GST field; one lipstick in five shades is five items
Batch and expiryNot a GST field; it is what a complaint or return is checked against

The shop columns in this format

  • Shade / size: Shade code or pack size: Ruby 04, 340 ml.
  • Batch: From the pack; useful for complaints.
  • Expiry: MM/YY. Do not sell expired stock.

GST rates on the sample items

Talcum and face powder, hair oil and shampoo, toothpaste and toilet soap moved from 18% to 5% (PIB, 56th GST Council; GST Council FAQs 44-46 say the cut is only for these daily-use items). The sample lipstick and perfume lines stay at 18%.

Common mistakes on cosmetics bills

  • Charging 18% on shampoo or face powder after 22 September 2025.
  • Putting all cosmetics at 5% because a few items moved; most make-up did not.
  • Selling near-expiry stock without checking, then facing returns.

How to use this format

  1. Download the format. Choose Excel (.xlsx) for automatic GST totals, Word (.docx) to edit the layout, or Print / Save as PDF to get the A4 sample as a PDF.
  2. Put in your shop details. Replace the sample shop name, address and GSTIN.
  3. Type over the sample items. Enter each item with its HSN, shade / size, batch, expiry, quantity, rate, discount and GST rate. In Excel the taxable value, CGST, SGST or IGST and the total fill in by themselves.
  4. Print, sign and keep a copy. Print on A4 or save as PDF, sign it and keep the office copy with the next invoice number in your series.

FAQ

Cosmetics bill format: questions

What should a cosmetics bill show?

Your shop details and GSTIN, bill number and date, and for each product the description, shade or size, batch, expiry, HSN, quantity, rate, discount, taxable value and GST rate, then the tax split, total and signature.

What is the GST on cosmetics in 2026?

5% for talcum and face powder, hair oil, shampoo, toothpaste and toilet soap from 22 September 2025; other cosmetics such as lipstick and perfume remain at 18% in the samples. Check each HSN.

Do I need batch and expiry on a cosmetics bill?

GST does not ask for it. It helps with complaints and returns, and it stops staff from billing expired stock if your software checks it.

Can I give loyalty points on the bill?

Yes, as a discount on a later bill. GST is then charged on the value after that discount.

Is this format fine for a beauty parlour?

No. Parlour services are services with SAC and their own rate. This format is for selling products.
