Common problems at the counter
Missing details on the invoice
A GST invoice needs your GSTIN, a serial number, HSN or SAC codes and the tax split. Handwritten or Excel bills often miss one of these.
CGST and SGST or IGST?
Selling to a customer in your state needs CGST plus SGST. Selling to another state needs IGST. Choosing wrong means correcting returns later.
Month-end scramble for your CA
Your CA asks for HSN-wise sales, B2B invoices and purchase details. Pulling these from bill books takes days.
Not sure which rules apply
Composition scheme, e-invoicing thresholds, B2B versus B2C. Small shop owners hear many terms and are unsure what they must follow.
Built for the way you sell
Invoices with every GST field
Your GSTIN, invoice number, date, HSN or SAC code, taxable value and tax amount print on each bill. Add the buyer's GSTIN for B2B sales.

From opening to closing
Set up your business
Enter your GSTIN, state and address. Add items with HSN codes and GST rates, or import them from a CSV file.
Bill B2C and B2B customers
For walk-in customers, bill as usual. For a business buyer, add their GSTIN so the invoice is a proper B2B tax invoice.
Record purchases
Enter supplier bills as they arrive so your purchase and input tax figures stay current through the month.
Send reports to your CA
At month end, export HSN-wise sales, purchase and tax reports. Your CA uses them to file your GST returns.
What to look for before you choose
- Every invoice should carry your GSTIN, a unique serial number, date, HSN or SAC code, taxable value, tax rate and tax amount.
- Correct tax split: CGST and SGST for sales within your state, IGST for sales to other states.
- A field for the buyer's GSTIN and address on B2B invoices.
- HSN-wise sales and purchase reports that export to Excel or CSV, so your CA does not retype data.
- Support for composition dealers to issue a bill of supply without charging tax.
- Clarity on what the software does not do. If your turnover crosses the e-invoicing threshold, check how you will generate IRNs.
- Regular backups, because GST law expects you to keep records for several years.
- A free trial long enough to run one full month of billing and test the reports with your CA.

What is GST billing software?
GST billing software creates invoices that meet GST rules: your GSTIN, HSN or SAC codes, tax rate and the correct CGST, SGST or IGST split. It also keeps sales and purchase data so you can produce reports for filing. RichPOS does this in your browser for ₹199 a month or ₹2,000 a year, with a free 30-day trial and no card required.
What must a GST invoice include?
A GST tax invoice must show the seller's name, address and GSTIN, a unique invoice number and date, HSN or SAC codes, description, quantity, taxable value, tax rate and tax amount split into CGST and SGST or IGST. For B2B sales it must also show the buyer's GSTIN. Your CA can confirm any extra fields for your business.
When do I charge CGST and SGST versus IGST?
Charge CGST and SGST when the seller and the place of supply are in the same state. For example, 18% GST becomes 9% CGST and 9% SGST. Charge IGST at the full rate when the place of supply is in a different state. Most walk-in retail sales are within the state.
Does RichPOS generate e-invoices or e-way bills?
No. RichPOS creates GST tax invoices and reports but does not generate IRNs, e-invoices or e-way bills. E-invoicing applies only to businesses above a turnover threshold, so check the current threshold with your CA. Most small retail shops are below it. If your business crosses the threshold, you will need a separate way to generate IRNs, and your CA can advise on the right setup.
Can I file GSTR returns directly from RichPOS?
No. RichPOS does not file returns on the GST portal. It gives you HSN-wise sales, purchase and tax reports that you can export to Excel, CSV or PDF. Your CA or tax filer uses these reports to prepare and file your returns. Because the reports are grouped by HSN and tax rate, they do not have to rebuild the figures from individual bills.
Can a composition scheme dealer use RichPOS?
Yes. Composition dealers cannot charge GST to customers and issue a bill of supply instead of a tax invoice. You can set up items without tax and use custom text on the bill to mark it as a bill of supply. Ask your CA to confirm the exact wording you need.
How do I find the HSN code for my products?
HSN codes come from the GST tariff and are usually printed on your supplier's invoice. Copy the code from there, or search the GST rate finder on the official GST portal. Businesses with smaller turnover generally use 4-digit codes, and larger ones use 6 digits. Save the code on each item once and RichPOS uses it on every bill.
Is there free GST billing software?
RichPOS is not free, but it has a 30-day free trial with no card required. The trial allows up to 200 items and customers, 500 invoices, one warehouse and one user. After that, it costs ₹199 a month or ₹2,000 a year, which includes billing, stock, purchase, GST reports and 1,000 AI credits. Run a full month of real bills during the trial and check the reports with your CA before you pay.
