Common problems at the counter
The evening queue
Between 6 and 9 pm everyone wants milk, bread and atta at once. Adding up by calculator makes people wait and mistakes creep in.
Udhaar written in a diary
Regular customers buy on credit. The diary gets crowded, entries are missed, and asking for money face to face feels awkward.
Out of stock on basics
You find out the sugar or oil is finished only when a customer asks for it. That sale goes to the shop across the road.
Many suppliers, no clear dues
Distributors for biscuits, soaps and staples each send bills. Without a supplier ledger, you are never sure how much you owe whom.
Built for the way you sell
Fast billing with barcode or keyboard
Scan packaged goods or type the first letters of a loose item. Set the unit, like kg, gram or litre, and the quantity on the bill.
- Barcode scanning for packed items
- Quick search for loose goods
- Cash, card, UPI or split payment
Udhaar with automatic reminders
Every credit sale is saved against the customer. Scheduled reminders go out on SMS, email or WhatsApp, so you do not have to ask in person.
- Due amount per customer
- Scheduled payment reminders
- Part payments recorded against the dues
Low-stock alerts on daily items
Set a minimum level for each item. When stock falls below it, you get an alert and can order before the shelf is empty.
- Alerts for fast movers like oil, sugar and atta
- Stock adjustment log for damage and expiry
- Categories and brands for easy search
Supplier purchases and dues
Record each distributor bill and see what you owe them. Snap a photo of the bill and the AI prepares the purchase entry for you to check.
- Supplier ledger and outstanding
- Purchase returns for damaged goods
- AI reads supplier bill photos or PDFs
Know your cash at closing
See cash-in-hand at the end of the day, separate from UPI and card money. Deposits and bank entries are easy to match.
- Daily cash-in-hand per counter
- UPI, card and cash shown separately
- Bank deposit records
From opening to closing
Open the shop
Check the low-stock list and call the distributor for items running short before the morning customers arrive.
Bill all day
Scan packets, type loose items by weight, and take UPI or cash. Regular customers can take goods on udhaar, saved to their account.
Receive supplier goods
When the distributor van comes, enter the bill or let the AI read a photo of it. Stock goes up and the supplier due is recorded.
Close the day
Match cash-in-hand, see the day's UPI total, and let scheduled reminders go out to customers with pending udhaar. Take a backup before you switch off the computer.
What to look for before you choose

- Customer-wise udhaar with due amounts and reminders you do not have to send by hand.
- Low-stock alerts on items you cannot afford to run out of.
- A supplier ledger so you know what is owed to each distributor.

Which billing software is best for a kirana store?
For a kirana store, look for fast barcode and keyboard billing, units for loose goods, udhaar tracking with reminders, low-stock alerts and a supplier ledger. RichPOS includes all of these for ₹199 a month or ₹2,000 a year. It runs in a browser on your counter computer, and you can try it free for 30 days without a card.
Can I sell loose items like rice and dal by weight?
Yes. Set up loose goods as items with a unit such as kg, gram or litre, then enter the quantity at billing. The price is worked out from the rate you set. Packed goods with barcodes can be scanned on the same bill, so one customer's mixed purchase is one invoice.
How does RichPOS help me recover udhaar?
Every credit sale is saved against the customer, so you always know the exact amount due. You can schedule payment reminders on SMS, email or WhatsApp, and record part payments as they come in. Customers get a polite, regular reminder and you avoid awkward conversations at the counter. You can also see which customers owe the most and for how long.
Does RichPOS accept UPI payments?
RichPOS records UPI payments on the bill, alongside cash and card, and can split one bill across them. The money itself reaches your bank through your existing UPI QR or app; RichPOS is not a payment gateway. You can also print a QR code on your bill format.
Do I need GST registration to use billing software?
No. You can use RichPOS for clean bills and stock records even if you are not registered. If you are registered under GST, you can add your GST number to the bill and set tax rates on items. Composition dealers should issue a bill of supply; ask your CA which applies to you. Low-stock alerts, udhaar reminders and supplier ledgers work the same either way.
What do I need to start billing in my kirana shop?
You need a computer or laptop with a browser and an internet connection, because RichPOS is a web app at pos.richdaddy.in. Add a 58 mm or 80 mm thermal printer for bills and, if you sell many packed goods, a barcode scanner. Then import your item list from a CSV file or add your top items by hand and start billing the same day.
Can I keep track of expiry and damaged goods?
You can remove expired or damaged stock with a stock adjustment, and each adjustment is saved in a log with the reason. This keeps your stock count honest and shows how much you lose to damage each month. If a distributor takes back damaged goods, record it as a purchase return so their ledger is corrected too.
Is the free trial enough for a small kirana shop?
The 30-day trial allows up to 200 items and customers, 500 invoices, one warehouse and one user. That is enough to test billing, udhaar and stock with your main items. After the trial, the paid plan at ₹199 a month or ₹2,000 a year removes these limits, and you keep the data you entered during the trial.
