Tally alternative for retail shops
Last updated · by Ashok Sachdev
Short answer: RichPOS is a Tally alternative for shops that mainly bill walk-in customers at a counter: it runs in a browser on any phone or computer with nothing to install, and starts at ₹1,999 a year with barcode billing, stock, udhaar and GST reports. If your CA keeps full books, TDS and returns in Tally, keep Tally for that: from Dukaan Plus (₹3,999 a year), RichPOS exports sales, purchases, credit notes and receipts as Tally XML or CSV. Choose Tally if you need e-invoicing, e-way bills or full accounting in one place.

Competitor facts as listed on tallysolutions.com/buy-tally, checked 27 October 2026. Prices exclude GST unless the vendor says otherwise. “Not stated” means we could not find it on their public pages, not that it is missing; ask the vendor. RichPOS prices from our pricing page.
Where Tally is stronger
- Full accounting. Tally lists invoicing and accounting, banking and cashflow, and GST and compliance in one product. RichPOS keeps billing-side ledgers and reports (including profit and loss), not a full set of books such as a balance sheet or TDS. As listed on tallysolutions.com/buy-tally, checked 27 October 2026
- E-invoices and e-way bills. E-invoicing and e-way bills are listed on both Silver and Gold. RichPOS does neither. As listed on tallysolutions.com/buy-tally, checked 27 October 2026
- Connected services. Tally lists connected services with its plans. RichPOS has nothing equivalent. As listed on tallysolutions.com/buy-tally, checked 27 October 2026
- A lifetime licence option. Silver is listed at ₹22,500 and Gold at ₹67,500 for a lifetime licence (18% GST extra), as well as monthly and 12-month plans. RichPOS is a subscription only. As listed on tallysolutions.com/buy-tally, checked 27 October 2026
- Familiar to many CAs. Many accountants already work in Tally, so handing over books is simple. That is the reason RichPOS exports to Tally rather than replacing it. We have no count of users to quote; see their site. As listed on tallysolutions.com/buy-tally, checked 27 October 2026
Where RichPOS fits better
RichPOS is built for the retail billing counter. What it offers, with the plan noted where it is not on every plan:
- Barcode billing and barcode label printing
- Automatic offers: bill % off and buy X get Y (Dukaan Plus and above)
- Credit notes; loyalty points and gift vouchers from Dukaan Plus
- Day close with cash count, staff-wise sales report and activity log (Dukaan Plus and above)
- Discount limits by staff role
- Customer udhaar with WhatsApp payment reminders
- Online catalog with WhatsApp ordering
- GSTR-1 reports for your CA; Tally export (XML or CSV) from Dukaan Plus
- RichPOS AI chat on your shop data and AI scan of purchase bills
- Locations: 2 on Dukaan Plus, 3 on Business, unlimited on Business Pro
Not for you if: RichPOS needs an internet connection (no offline billing), does not generate e-invoices (IRN) or e-way bills, and does not connect to a weighing scale by cable (it does read barcode labels printed by label-printing scales).
Using RichPOS with Tally, or moving your billing across
Most shops do not need to choose. Keep your Tally company as it is for the accounts, and move only the daily billing to RichPOS. RichPOS does not file GST returns or generate e-invoices or e-way bills, so keep Tally or your CA's tool for those.
What comes across
- Your item list, from an Excel or CSV file (RichPOS imports items from Excel or CSV)
- Each month, a Tally import file from RichPOS: a masters file first (units, GST duty ledgers, party ledgers with GSTIN and state, stock items with HSN, unit and GST rate), then vouchers (sales, credit notes, purchases, debit notes, receipts and payments)
- Ledger names you set once on the Tally Export page, saved for every later export
What does not
- Past years' books: they stay in Tally, with your CA
- Tally export is part of Dukaan Plus and above; the base Dukaan plan does not include it
- RichPOS does not file GST returns or make e-invoices or e-way bills
Steps
- Keep your Tally company. Do not close or delete it. Your CA continues to use it for accounts, TDS and returns.
- Start the free trial. Sign up at app.richdaddy.in/register for 30 days with no card, and import your item list from an Excel or CSV file.
- Set ledger names once. On the Tally Export page in RichPOS, enter the ledger names your CA uses. Each export reuses them.
- Export each month. Download the masters file first, then the vouchers (up to 5,000 per file, so split a busy month if needed). Choose XML, or CSV if your CA wants to check the figures in Excel.
- Hand over to your CA. Your CA imports the files into Tally. Ask your CA to test one month first.
More detail on the export is on the Tally export page. We help with the item import for free on WhatsApp.

RichPOS Dukaan costs ₹1,999 a year (about ₹5.50 a day), or ₹199 a month after ₹99 a month for the first 3 months, with a free 30-day trial first. On 22 October 2026 that was less than the 1-year price of the entry paid GST billing and stock plan of Swipe, myBillBook, Vyapar Desktop, Marg ERP, Zoho, BUSY, TallyPrime and GoFrugal.
What the ₹1,999 Dukaan plan includes:
- GST billing, barcode stock, purchases, udhaar, WhatsApp bills, GST reports and an online catalog
- 2 staff users, 1 location, 2,000 items and 1,500 bills a month; unlimited devices
- Web app on any browser, free Windows, Mac and Linux desktop apps, and an Android app
- No setup fee and no GST. More users, locations and modules: Dukaan Plus ₹3,999, Business ₹5,999, Business Pro ₹8,999 a year
What you do not get at this price: offline billing, GST e-invoices (IRN), e-way bills or a weighing scale connected by cable (it does read barcode labels from label-printing scales). RichPOS does not do these; Vyapar, Swipe (Jet) and myBillBook (Pro Max) list e-way bills, and Vyapar lists offline billing.
See the dated price table with 10 other billing apps.
Vyapar's mobile-only Silver plan (₹699 a year) costs less than RichPOS, and Vyapar, Swipe, Zoho Books, Zoho POS, Zoho Inventory and BUSY Express have free plans with limits.
Common questions
What is a good Tally alternative for a retail shop?
For a shop that mainly bills walk-in customers at a counter with a barcode scanner, RichPOS is a good alternative: it runs in any browser with nothing to install, and its POS billing screen, barcode label printing, stock, udhaar and GST reports are on every plan from ₹1,999 a year. If your CA keeps full books in Tally, or you need e-invoices, e-way bills or complete accounting, keep Tally for that.
Can I use RichPOS and Tally together?
Yes. From Dukaan Plus (₹3,999 a year) and above, RichPOS exports sales, credit notes, purchases, debit notes and receipts or payments as a Tally XML file or CSV. Import the masters file first (ledgers and stock items), then the vouchers. The base Dukaan plan does not include the Tally export.
Is RichPOS cheaper than TallyPrime?
The plans differ in scope, so compare the plan with the features you need. On 27 October 2026 Tally listed Silver (single PC) at ₹750 a month, ₹8,100 for 12 months (list ₹9,000) or ₹22,500 lifetime, and Gold (multi-user) at ₹2,250 a month, ₹24,300 for 12 months or ₹67,500 lifetime, with 18% GST extra. RichPOS Dukaan is ₹99 a month for the first 3 months, then ₹199 a month, or ₹1,999 a year; Dukaan Plus is ₹3,999 a year. Tally includes e-invoicing, e-way bills and full accounting; RichPOS does not. Prices change, so check both sites.
Does RichPOS have full accounting like Tally?
No. RichPOS has customer udhaar and supplier ledgers, profit and loss, expense and stock valuation reports, and GST reports for your CA. Your CA does the final books, in Tally or other accounting software.
Can RichPOS make e-invoices or e-way bills like Tally?
No. RichPOS makes GST bills and GSTR-1 reports, but it does not generate e-invoices (IRN) or e-way bills, and it does not file GST returns. Tally lists e-invoicing and e-way bills on both Silver and Gold.
Does RichPOS work offline?
No. RichPOS needs an internet connection to bill. For how Tally works without internet, see their site.
How do I move my items from Tally to RichPOS?
Export your item list to an Excel or CSV file and import it into RichPOS, then print barcode labels for items that have none. Keep Tally for past years' books until your CA has closed them. We help with the import for free on WhatsApp.
Can I try RichPOS before I pay?
Yes. Sign up at app.richdaddy.in/register for a free 30-day trial. No card needed. After the trial, Dukaan is ₹99 a month for the first 3 months, then ₹199 a month or ₹1,999 a year.
