What to print on the bill
- Print HSN 1701 (cane jaggery) or 1702 as your supplier's invoice shows.
- Bill a gur block cut and weighed for the customer as loose (0%).
- Gur chikki, gajak and til patti are a separate entry; do not bill them as jaggery.
- HSN digits: 4 if your turnover last year was up to ₹5 crore, 6 above that; up to ₹5 crore you may leave HSN off bills to unregistered buyers (Notification 78/2020-CT). More in B2C bill rules.
Common mistakes
- Charging 5% on loose gur from a block.
- Billing gur powder in a branded pouch at 0%. A labelled retail pack is pre-packaged.
- Coding chikki as jaggery because it is made of gur.

Questions about GST on jaggery and gur
Is gur taxable under GST?
Only when pre-packaged and labelled, at 5%. Loose jaggery of all types is nil (Notification 10/2025, S. No. 96).
Is jaggery powder taxed differently from gur blocks?
No. The entry says 'jaggery of all types', so the packed or loose condition decides it, not the form.
What is the HSN for khandsari?
Khandsari is listed in the jaggery entry under 1701 or 1702: 5% packed, nil loose.
