Quick answer

The best billing software for a footwear shop in India keeps every size and colour of a design as its own stock line, bills by scanning a barcode tag, handles exchanges without breaking stock, and sets GST at 5% or 18% per pair. RichPOS does all of this from ₹99/month for the first 3 months, then ₹199/month or ₹2,000/year, with a 30-day free trial. Vyapar suits shops that need offline billing or a free plan, myBillBook suits phone-first owners, and Marg ERP suits shops already on a desktop ERP.

A shoe shop has a stock problem most shops do not: one design comes in eight sizes and three colours, so a single article is really 24 items. Size 8 runs out while size 11 sits for months, and exchanges for a different size happen every day. This guide compares the software Indian footwear retailers most often shortlist, on what actually matters at a shoe counter.

What a footwear shop needs from billing software

NeedWhy it matters in a shoe shop
Size and colour variantsEach size of each colour must show its own stock, or you cannot tell what to reorder
Barcode labels and scan billingBoxes look alike; scanning the tag bills the exact size and price
Exchanges tied to the old billThe returned pair goes back into stock and the new size goes out, with only the difference paid
GST by price per pairFootwear up to ₹2,500 a pair is 5% GST; above ₹2,500 a pair it is 18%
Season offersBuy 1 get 1, flat % off and festival sales need to apply without the cashier doing maths
Size-wise reorderReorder the sizes that sell, not the whole article
Staff controlSalespeople give discounts; the owner needs limits and a record

Which software fits which footwear shop?

RichPOS: walk-in shoe shops with many sizes and staff at the counter

RichPOS keeps items, brands and variants unlimited, so a design with eight sizes in three colours is one product with 24 variants, each with its own stock, price and barcode. You print barcode labels for new stock, bill by scanning, and take cash, card, UPI or a split payment. A sales return writes the pair back into stock; you can refund as a credit note the customer uses on the next pair. Automatic offers (bill % off, buy X get Y), loyalty points and gift vouchers apply at billing. Day close with a cash count, a staff-wise sales report and discount limits by role keep the counter in check. More than one store or a godown runs on the same plan. Read RichPOS for footwear shops.

Limits to know: RichPOS needs an internet connection and does not make e-invoices or e-way bills.

Vyapar: small shops that need offline billing or want to start free

Vyapar lists offline billing that syncs later, a free plan, e-invoices and e-way bills, and runs on Android, iOS and Windows desktop. If your internet drops often, or you send goods to other states, those count for more than counter features. We could not find automatic buy-X-get-Y offers, gift vouchers or day close on Vyapar's public pages in October 2026. See RichPOS vs Vyapar.

myBillBook: owners who bill from their phone

myBillBook runs on Android, iOS and the web. Its POS billing screen, loyalty and e-invoicing are listed on the top Pro Max plan, and Plus and Pro allow 1 user plus 1 CA login. Fine for a one-person shop; check the user count if two salespeople bill at once. See the myBillBook alternative page.

Marg ERP: shops already on a desktop ERP

Marg is a long-standing desktop ERP with a large support network, strong in distribution. The entry price is higher and each extra user or company adds ₹3,000, which adds up for a showroom with two counters. See Marg alternatives.

Zoho Inventory: footwear brands that also sell online

Zoho Inventory is built for orders across marketplaces and an online store. The free plan's 50 orders a month is small for a busy shoe counter. See Zoho Inventory alternatives.

GST on footwear: the ₹2,500 rule at the counter

From 22 September 2025, footwear (HSN 6401 to 6405) with a sale value up to ₹2,500 a pair is taxed at 5% and footwear above ₹2,500 a pair at 18%, under Notification 9/2025-Central Tax (Rate). The test is per pair, not per bill: three pairs at ₹900 each are all 5% even though the bill is ₹2,700.

Pair price (before GST)GST rateGST on one pairCustomer pays
₹9995%₹49.95₹1,048.95
₹2,4005%₹120₹2,520
₹3,20018%₹576₹3,776

Set the right rate on each design (or each variant, if sizes are priced differently), and the bill picks it up. If you run discounts that take a pair across ₹2,500, agree the treatment with your CA. Full detail: GST on footwear in 2026 and the footwear HSN and rate page.

How to set up a shoe shop in RichPOS

  1. Start the free trial and add your shop name, address and GSTIN.
  2. Create each design once, with brand and category, then add a variant for every size and colour.
  3. Set HSN 6401 to 6405 and the 5% or 18% rate on each design based on its pair price.
  4. Enter opening stock per size, or receive it against a supplier purchase order.
  5. Print barcode tags for boxes that have no usable maker's barcode.
  6. Set up season offers such as buy 1 get 1 and the maximum discount each staff role may give.
  7. Bill by scanning, send the bill on WhatsApp, and close the day with a cash count.

Questions to ask any vendor in a demo

  • Show me one design in 8 sizes and 3 colours, and the stock of each.
  • Do an exchange of size 8 for size 9 on yesterday's bill. What happens to stock?
  • How does a buy 1 get 1 offer apply, and can a salesperson override it?
  • How many users can bill at the same time on this plan?
  • What happens to billing when the internet goes down?

Bottom line

A shoe shop runs on size-wise stock, scan billing and clean exchanges, with GST set per pair. Load one full size run of a best-selling design into the RichPOS free trial and bill a few exchanges before you decide. Compare every option on the comparison page or check pricing.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Which is the best billing software for a footwear shop in India?
For a walk-in shoe shop, choose software that tracks stock by size and colour, bills by barcode, links exchanges to the old bill and sets GST per pair. RichPOS covers these from ₹99/month for the first 3 months, then ₹199/month or ₹2,000/year, after a 30-day free trial. Vyapar fits shops that need offline billing or a free plan; myBillBook fits owners who bill from a phone; Marg ERP fits shops already on a desktop ERP.
How do I manage shoe sizes in billing software?
Create the design once and add each size and colour as a variant with its own stock, price and barcode. In RichPOS items and variants are unlimited, so a design in 8 sizes and 3 colours becomes one product with 24 variants, and you can see which sizes to reorder.
What is the GST rate on footwear in 2026?
Footwear under HSN 6401 to 6405 is taxed at 5% when the sale value is up to ₹2,500 a pair and 18% above ₹2,500 a pair, from 22 September 2025 under Notification 9/2025-Central Tax (Rate). The test applies to each pair, not to the bill total.
How should a shoe shop handle exchanges in billing software?
Take the returned pair as a sales return on the original bill so it goes back into stock, then bill the new size and collect or refund only the difference. RichPOS can also refund a return as a credit note that the customer uses later.
Does RichPOS work offline in a shoe shop?
No. RichPOS runs in the browser and on an Android app and needs an internet connection to bill. If your internet is unreliable, test it during the free trial or consider an app that lists offline billing, such as Vyapar.
How much does footwear billing software cost in India?
As listed by vendors (excluding GST): RichPOS ₹99/month for the first 3 months then ₹199/month, or ₹2,000/year (October 2026); Vyapar Silver ₹3,959/year and Gold ₹4,319/year (October 2026); myBillBook Plus ₹3,490/year (October 2026); Marg ERP Nano ₹5,550 (September 2026).
