How to use it

  1. Pick the barcode type. EAN-13 for 12 or 13 digit numbers like the ones on packed goods; Code 128 for your own item codes with letters, such as SKU-104.
  2. Type the code. For EAN-13 type 12 digits and the 13th (check digit) is added for you; if you type all 13, the tool checks the last one. Add an item name or price above the bars if you want.
  3. Choose the size. Medium works on screens and documents. For printing at 300 dpi pick the print size, which gives bars about 0.34 mm wide, close to the standard EAN-13 size.
  4. Download or print. Download PNG for Word, WhatsApp or label software, or SVG for packaging designs that need to scale. To print many labels on A4 sheets or a thermal roll, press Print on label sheets.

Questions

Is this barcode generator free?

Yes. Single barcodes download as PNG or SVG with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit. The barcode is drawn in your browser and the code you type is not sent to us. Only the optional ZIP of many barcodes asks for your name and WhatsApp number once.

Will my shop scanner read these barcodes?

Yes, if they are printed sharp and not too small. The tool draws standard EAN-13 and Code 128 symbols with the quiet zones (blank margins) scanners need. Do not stretch the PNG unevenly, keep the white margins, and print with a laser or thermal printer where you can. Test one print with your scanner before a big run.

What is the check digit in EAN-13?

The 13th digit, worked out from the first 12, so a scanner can catch a misread. Type 12 digits and the tool adds it. If you type 13 digits and the last one is wrong, the tool tells you the correct digit instead of drawing a barcode that will not scan.

Can I put these EAN-13 numbers on products I sell to other shops or online?

Not numbers you make up. Inside your own shop any number works, and numbers starting with 20 to 29 are kept by GS1 for in-store use. To sell packed products through other retailers or marketplaces, you need barcode numbers licensed to your company by GS1 India.

EAN-13 or Code 128: which should I use?

EAN-13 if the code is a 12 or 13 digit number, such as a product's existing barcode. Code 128 if your codes mix letters and digits, like KUR-BLU-L or SKU-104. Both work with normal USB and Bluetooth shop scanners. Code 128 gets wider as the code gets longer, so keep codes short for small labels.

PNG or SVG: which file should I download?

PNG works almost everywhere: Word, Excel, WhatsApp and most label printer software. SVG is a vector file that stays sharp at any size, which is better for packaging and print designs in tools like CorelDRAW, Illustrator, Canva or Inkscape.

What size should a printed EAN-13 barcode be?

The standard (100%) EAN-13 is about 37.3 mm wide and 25.9 mm tall including the digits, with bars 0.33 mm wide. GS1 allows roughly 80% to 200% of that. The print size here gives about 0.34 mm bars at 300 dpi. Do not cut the height much below standard on packaging.
